Angel visits Dental Academy!
Dentistry Academy is AWESOME! It felt like a college class, with flat screen tvs on the walls, and white boards all around. The professor was talking and typing on the computer that was projected on the screen behind him, while the students threw out deep questions. The topic "Does technology make you dumber?" was really fun to try to turn into a research question- "Can youtube affect scores on geometry tests?" And the experiment about how different liquids dissolve eggshells was also fun to watch!
Can't wait until May 18th when the Academy presents their community service learning project: Cedar Rising Dentists Present: Neighborhood Tooth Watch! It will feature a play, educational speakers, Islamic speakers, and Dr Mohamed Salad- a dentist with his own practice who came from the community and graduated from the U of MN dental school!
For now check out these pics!

Leadership Program Planning Committee: Members Wanted!
Brian Coyle Youth Program Staff is looking for teens interested in advising us as we plan a NEW Leadership Program!
Thomas and I have talked with a number of you already about your past leadership experience, as well as your ideas for a future program. We have come up with a program outline based on these insights, and have even written a grant proposal based on this outline!
We want to have another meeting with any Coyle teens interested in assisting us in development of this program, Community Leadership Ambassadors, set to begin in Fall, 2013.
First Meeting: Tomorrow, Friday, Feb 8 @5pm in the Coyle Library
Next Meeting: Monday, Feb 11 @6pm in the Coyle Youth Room
If you are not able to join us in planning the program, keep checking back here for ongoing updates and opportunities for feedback.
We WANT YOUR Ideas!

Global Youth Service Day Planning!
Pillsbury United Communities has been a lead agency for Global Youth Service Day for over 7 years!
As you know, we believe making our communities a better place is the responsibility of all of us, regardless of age. Global Youth Service Day is an opportunity to highlight all the organized efforts our young people have done throughout the year to make our communities better, all while learning!
Past projects include an Anti-Violence March around Cedar Riverside, Khuber Education Project, Police Academy Community Education, and an Anti Bullying Campaign.
If you have an idea for a project, talk to your group leader at Brian Coyle!
Groups with successful projects will be rewarded with a celebration for your group, as well as a framed certificate and photos of your group on our website!
Sisterhood Social Entrepreneurship takes a trip!
Welcome to the NEW Brian Coyle Youth Blog!
Why would we have a blog?
To communicate and share our program planning, fun events and photos, and programs evaluation with YOU- the beneficiaries of our programs!
So, what's new?
Last night the boys 18U team sadly lost their game. :(
But in good news, the Sisterhood Social Entrepreneurship group and FANS group had a great field trip to ARK Value Village. Ark is a thrift store that uses 50% of all its profits to fund their advocacy programs for people with disabilities. The goal for the Sisterhood Social Entrepreneurship group is to create a thrift store in the Brian Coyle Center that will become earned income for the youth programs! What a great idea! The even better news? It will be starting in the summer! For more information, ask Jennifer Blevins ( blevinsj@puc-mn.org) or Laurine Chang at changl@puc-mn.org.
